Frequently Asked Questions

This FAQ document pertains to the PDF remediation services we offer. If you have questions about document accessibility, please see our Accessibility Resources section or Contact Us.

What type of documents do you make accessible?

We remediate your existing PDF documents (of all kinds- scanned text, images, tagged or untagged PDFs) or we can produce accessible PDFs (tagged PDFs) from your source documents, such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InDesign, Publisher etc.

What accessibility standards do you meet?

We can provide documents to meet any standards you require. If you aren’t sure about accessibility standards, we recommend WCAG 2.0 AA in the PDF/UA format. This will meet any Section 508, ADA or AODA requirements.

Can you tell me if my files are accessible or not?

Yes, we offer our accessibility testing service free of charge.

Do I have to pay extra for image descriptions (alt-texts)?

We can add all of the alt-text descriptions for English documents. Please download our alt-text template where you can provide the alt-text descriptions and we will add them for you. For other languages we can usually figure it out, but we may require you to review the document afterwards.

If you need us to write them for you, we can do so at additional cost. For this service, we only write in English.

How do you test your files?

All of our documents are tested by industry standard tools, careful human inspection and the NVDA screen reader.

Can you make complex tables accessible in PDF documents?

Yes, we can tag both simple and complex tables including financial documents and other complex data.

Do you make accessible forms?

Yes, we do. We can make fillable accessible PDF forms which are usable by screen readers.

What is the expected turnaround time?

We pride ourselves on being able to complete your projects quickly.  That said, each specific project is unique and we can only give time estimates after we have evaluated your documents.

How much do you charge?

We do not offer a standard pricing schedule because the cost to make any given file accessible can vary greatly depending on the complexity of the job and the challenges presented by the document(s). Feel free to request a quote or contact us and we would be happy to evaluate your files and discuss the specifics of your project.

We do have a minimum of $15 per document.

Can I get an estimate of the cost?

Yes, you can contact us for a quote and we will send you one right away. We have no minimum price per project.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept a number of payment options, including credit cards (preferred), checks, PayPal, money orders and electronic bank transfers.

Do I have to pay money up front?

On most projects, we do not require that any money be paid up front to complete the required work until the end product has been delivered. However, we do reserve the right to ask for a portion of the funds in specific cases.

What if I need changes? Do I have to pay extra?

If the required changes arise from a difference of opinion about the accessibility of the document, we will adjust it to the standard of your choice, within 3 days of delivery of the final product.

If the changes arise as a result of late revisions that were brought forward after work has started on the document, we will do our best to accommodate them, however depending on the timing and nature of the changes, additional charges may apply.
